With its open and creative culture, world-class universities, competitive tuition fees, and excellent employment opportunities, Montreal is one of the top student destinations in the world. Our city ranks no. 1 in Canada and sixth in the world on the 2019 QS Best Student Cities index.

Montreal: One of the world's top study destinations

Parlez-vous franglais?

In the city core, you’ll often hear Montrealers using French and English interchangeably. Around half of the Montreal population’s first language is French, 12 percent is English, and the rest speak a different first language including Arabic, Italian, Spanish, Creole and Chinese. If you don’t speak French, don’t worry. You’ll be able to get by easily with English. But once you’re here, why not try to learn? Living in Montreal is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a new language and culture.

World-class culture

Montreal is an eclectic blend of North American and European culture, with plenty to see and do year-round. Check out the city’s countless museums and art galleries. Soak up the world-famous nightlife and comedy scene. And take your pick of more than 100 annual festivals—from Osheaga and Mural Festival in summer to Igloofest and Nuit Blanche in winter.

“Few cities can compete with Montreal’s mouth-watering mix of food, festivals and fun-centric living”—Lonely Planet

If you’re a foodie, Montreal is the place to be. The city is home to six farmers’ markets and 6,000+ restaurants, second only to New York for the most restaurants per capita in North America. Love the outdoors? Explore on two wheels with the city’s extensive network of bike paths, or go kayaking on the Lachine Canal. With 2,200 acres of parks, Montreal has green spaces to spare—like the beautiful and sprawling Parc Mont-Royal, located right beside McGill’s downtown campus.
